One of the adverse effects of stress on "charismatic", "transformation" and "visionary" leader behavior over the last few decades has been a tendency to diminish the importance that the transactional behavior of the management is to leadership effectiveness. We say that it is bad, because recent studies have shown that transactional leadership, in the form of a contingent consideration and punishment behavior can have a significant impact on a number of important employee attitudes, perceptions, and productivity measures.
