1.2 Saudi Arabian Airlines

            Saudi Arabian Airlines which has been the flag carrier airline for the country of Saudi Arabia has been the major carrier in the country. The airline has been operating since the year 1945 with a single twin engine DC-3 (Dakota) HZ-AAX which was a gift to the King Abdul Aziz by the President of United Sates, Franklin D. Roosevelt. The airline operates from Jeddah. Initially, the airline was called the Saudia; however, in the year 1997, the name of the airline was changed to Saudi Arabian Airlines in 1997 (Morrocco, 1997).

            The airline has been operating in the international and the domestic market where it covers more than 120 destinations in the Middle East, Europe, and North America, Asian and African markets. The international and the domestic charted flights are operated by the airline during the occasion of Ramadan and the Hajj season

            The major operations of the airline are conducted from the operational base which is in Jeddah King Abdul Aziz Airport (JED). Along with this, the airline also operates from its other major hubs such as the Riyadh-King Khalid International Airport (RUH), and Dammam-King Fahd International Airport (DMM). The latest Dammam airport has been operating since the year 1999. Saudi Arabian Airline has been the member of the Arab Air Carriers Organizations. It is the third largest aircraft carrier in the Middle East, where it generates quite sufficient amount of revenues that are right behind the Emirates and the Qatar Airways.
