Chris Summers, VP of Supply Chain Management at the oil field services firm Elevalt, is engaged in an investigation of his globally spread distribution centers (DCs). He should evaluate Elevalt's network of the Middle East, Africa, and also DCs throughout Europe to see whether it had be beneficial to consolidate the present network of six DCs to just one centered DC in either Europe or Africa.
He must optimize the present functioning, which seem to be facing quandary with ineffective inventory management, prior to making this choice. The unproductive inventory management also appears to be driving added transport costs. Summers must think about hazards and the benefits associated with combining Elevalt's DCs while still keeping his concentrate on the needs of Elevalt's customers.
