While supply chain management was approached from many different standpoints, the role of the worldwide supply chain as a mechanism to cure serious supply chain disruptions has not yet been investigated adequately. This article converses the ways in which Japanese production businesses have responded to the recent earthquake, tsunami, and atomic catastrophe. Predicated on case studies of Japanese manufacturing companies, this article represents on supply chain lessons in terms of disaster planning and recovery results and presents a discussion of the supply chain restoration process after severe natural disasters and humanitarian dislocations. The essential capabilities of dispersion, portability, and supply chain information layout are discussed.
