Delivering Doors in a Window: Supply Chain Management at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

This case is a supply chain management challenge for Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) in one of its aircraft export project doors leading aircraft manufacturers located outside of India. According to the contract, HAL is to deliver each aircraft door in the period established aircraft manufacturer. Delivery outside the doors of the window attracts penalty. The main character has to make decisions as to when to start the main assembly door to overcome differences in the assembly of doors, how much inventory to keep on 1222 units, which are used in the door assembly, how to manage the variability of processing time, how to process outsourcing, and how control units with a shelf life that are used in the door assembly. Students will be required to use analytical tools to come up with a solution for the above issues. The case also provides an opportunity for students to compare the complexity of the aerospace supply chain with other industries, such as automobiles.
