This case is intended for students, MBA, Executive Education, and MBAExec audience. It was used as a test case for the analysis and optimization, which is both a first year MBA elective and the second year of eligibility. Business begins by explaining that Thomas Jefferson was the father of five girls (and one stillborn son), and Randolph Jefferson (brother of Thomas) was the father of six boys (and girls). 2009 I used this fact to argue that Randolph is more likely the father Eston Hemings (a boy was born to Sally Hemings, who was one of Jefferson's slaves), because "some men have boys and the other girls."
