Energy Security in Europe (B): The Southern Corridor Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Nabucco gas pipeline, by a group of European energy companies, was designed to connect a wide gas-rich Middle East and Central Asia to Europe for the first time, which is to diversify sources of supply. At the same time, the Italian-Russian consortium announced South Stream gas pipeline, which will diversify transport routes for gas supplies from Russia to Europe. To get support, supporters of Nabucco and South Stream insisted that their projects were aimed at achieving the objectives of EU energy policy (reducing the use of fossil fuels to combat climate change and guarantee the physical availability and accessibility of imported fossil fuels). But, as the case, both projects progressed slowly, meeting many of the technological and commercial challenges, which, however, were overshadowed by extreme politicization Nabucco and South Stream: piping has become a factor in the domestic politics of several European countries, and was prominent in the relations between the EU countries EU, Russia, Turkey, the former Soviet republics in the Caucasus and Central Asia, and the United States.
