In the early 1970s BRAC was an advent non-governmental organization operating in Bangladesh.By 2014, it was the world's biggest NGO. It had a powerful presence in Bangladesh and had started to provide societal development programs in nine other states. Chairperson Fazle Hasan Abed and 2014's founder was knighted in 2010 by the British Crown in reducing poverty, for his service.
The organization took a holistic way of reducing poverty, which relied on providing poor with a portfolio of several services comprising education, agriculture development, healthcare, community empowerment and micro financing. Approximately 70% of the funding to produce BRAC's development programs and services came from its own for profit social enterprises. The case study enables students to examine the development and its business model of the organization.
