Franklin Crail initially started the Rocky mountain chocolate factory to increase his friends circle. Before Rocky Chocolate Factory Crail was running a successful tech business. Since there was not any candy shop in the locality therefore he decided to try his luck in the business. Crail is now at the age of 73. At the time of establishment of factory he borrowed $50000. He had to spend $30000 out of $50000 right away. With a short span of time, the Rocky chocolate factory turned into an international success.
Although Crail spent most of his early life time in San Diego. He joined American Army and was selected in Army Intelligence Unit. He wanted to start the business in order to know different people. The people of Durango had an increasing need for a car wash at that time. But Crail was not interested in the car wash business. He said he wanted the store to be near to the rail station. In this way the word of his new store would spread in the locality.
The company was facing financial troubles. It took Rocky Chocolate Factory around 20 years to become financially sound. Crail has lived to see his business grow from a single store to international success.
