The case describes a unique insurance scheme called Krupa Arogya Suraksha, helps Krishna Arogya Trust (Trust). The product was developed to expand the basic coverage for health "base-of-the-pyramid" (BOP) to the population at affordable premiums. Services were provided to Sri Krishna hospital, of whom was an employee of the Trust. Trust was looking at a win-win situation: in the provision of modern health services for large, low-income groups, facilities and infrastructure in the hospital could be better used. During the five years since its inception, membership in the scheme has been increased threefold to 43,000. These members / customers accounted for 13 percent of the patients treated in the hospital. Thus, the two goal of expanding affordable health care for low-income segment and the increased use of the hospital facilities have been achieved to some extent.
