Work-family balance Case Study Analysis
Discrimination at Workplace
Even if women are able to find the work/life balance that is ideal for them they will still experience discrimination at their place of work. At the workplace, it is very difficult for a woman to carry on the work as their usual normal routine because they need day off while during their pregnancy days(SLAUGHTER). The study reveals that pregnancy issues has been raised since from the increase in the number of women. Pregnancy issues’ effects starts from when a woman starts showing to the early years of motherhood(C. C. Miller, men do more at home but not enough).
This issue is related to the pregnancy issue. Young women are free from this type of issues. Since the development of multinational companies, the Pregnancy discrimination claims have risen(Miller). Additionally, the research reveals that the off days taken by the women during pregnancy days yields negative impact over theirperformance and hence untimely effect the paycheck in return(Miller). However, after completion of pregnancy days, it comes toward the category of motherhood in which women’ choices become changed with the passage of time and weakens the mother’s performance(DORMENT).
With the Pregnancy Act in place, the government is unable to remove pregnancy related discrimination issues. The women are facing with some discrimination because of the specific soften rules and regulations. The government should come up with strict pregnancy related act to solve this prevailing societal issue.
Maternity Leave
The issues have been increasing in this working era such as childcare neglection from both father and mother. Women not taking the adequate time off for maternity leave has the possibility of negatively effecting her child.Denise Cummins argued in her article “The Truth About Children of Working Mothers” that the increases in the number of working woman will yield negative impact over the overall society and also negatively influence the life of the child (Cummins). Moreover, it is argued that women have to pay more with respect to child care as compared to man.Slaughter argued that it depends on women’s choice and that the men should play his role for helping the women in house chores and for office work done (SLAUGHTER). Additionally, as slaughter suggested that childcare is become a mother’s need but is considered that infant daycare is not good for the baby(Cummins).
As some mothers would like to return to the workforce as soon as possible because of the office work burden that may not be ideal for their newborn baby and will resulted in health-related issues. Furthermore, the newborn baby requires more attention as compared to 5 or 6-year-old child. Thus, the women could be able to get exactly easily what she wants as suggested by the Slaughter.
Conclusion
As the slaughter argued that it is responsibility of the men to take part in women empowerment so that she could eb able to get what exactly she wants(SLAUGHTER). But, generally, it is very difficult that a woman could maintain an equal work life balance with respect to domestic and workplace work. With more women working paying jobs men have not balanced it out by picking up more work around the house. It is strongly argued that women is unable to accomplish all his expected desires because there are still some areas which should be improved(C. C. Miller). Furthermore, concluding my research by pi pointing some specific points which explicitly provide different sight as compared to slaughter and dorment authors.
- Denise Cummins argued in her article “The Truth About Children of Working Mothers” that the increases in the number of working woman will yield negative impact over the overall society and also negatively influence the life of the child (Cummins)
- The research represents that in the higher-level income group families are faced by negative child growth outcomes (Cummins)
- “Masculinity challenges arises when man thinks that he is working more as compared to woman and he then does not need to contribute in household domestic labor”- Sassler
- Miller argues that Women worked 21 more hours including household and child care working and men worked 12.5 more hours including household and child care working
- The study reveals that pregnancy issues has been raised since increase in the number of women. Pregnancy issues’ effects starts from when a woman starts showing to the early years of motherhood
- Women not taking the adequate time off for maternity leave has the possibility of negatively effecting her child.
These all points entail toward some specific assumption in which it could be said that it is not depends upon the choices of the women or the society, it carries some specific facts and figures which should be considered.Although Slaughter pointed out some issues that society can improve on there is still much more that needs to be changed in order for women to “have it all”........................
