Mike Miller Case (A) Case Study Solution
Frontier not mesh well with Miller
The Texas Incident is the prime example when Frontier Finance Corporation did not mesh well with Mike Miller. The company has contemplated to cut the cost of running a business operations in Texas through transferring Chad Williams to Houston and save the expense of travel incurred in serving the market of Houston from the Dallas office. Mike disagreed by stating that it would be more costly to transfer him to Houston and suggested alternatives means of relocating him such as; give cost of living adjustment, pay his moving expense etc. He also stated that firing Williams would not be the correct decision, because hiring someone would be expensive for the company because of high salary in Houston than Dallas. Shortly, Mike Miller stood against the elimination of Chad Williams even at the sake of his relation with Wynn Mason. The concern of the management of Frontier that is Cutting Cost At All Costs did not mesh well with Mike Miller because towards him, employees are only asset of any organization and in his perspective, they should be treated with respect and dignity and the company should use system thinking approach through expanding the choices range available for solving a problem through broadening thinking and articulate issue in different and new ways.
Recommendations
Mike Miller should manage the situation through retain employees and committed to long term growth of employees. Given the significance of the trust and leadership in knowledge sharing, the Mike Miller need to implement considerations in an attempt to enhance the performance within team and to increase the knowledge sharing. Culture is often outside employee’s control but leaders can influence which suggest a link between leader behavior and engagement. He should make the management realize that terminating employees is not the right action to be done because for short term the cost could be reduced but it might damage the long run profitability of company. Mike should also prioritize short term financial benefits over the long term employee’ well being. The employees of the company should be trusted to perform up to the market (Gupta, 2018). He should also ensure to embed a culture of optimization and ownership and incentivize continuous improvement. Despite of letting employees go and hire new ones, he should find alternative ways to layoffs such as freezing additional hiring, cut raises, bonuses, unnecessary overtime and travel, reduce pay rates or work hours and schedule unpaid employee furlough.
Nevertheless, there is an increasing awareness that the influence dynamics such as employee engagement and knowledge sharing is pivotal to the successful performance of business. It is imperative to note that high level of employee engagement would lead to lower employee turnover, higher productivity, high total shareholder return and better financial performance (Baumruk, 2004). On the other hand, the knowledge sharing holds equitable significance since it can build learning organization, facilitate capabilities of decision making, as well as stimulate cultural change and innovation(Murray, 2002). Frontier Company should expect its employees to be responsible and be proactive for their own development, so it requires employees that are dedicated, and inspired to perform, in this aspect it could explain that employee engagement within the organization is positively associated to performance of organization…………….
