Strength:
Google is one of the multinational companies that has a wide range of product offerings. Its core competency is its information system. Google has a strong brand name, providing its customers a user friendly atmosphere. Google’s updated version in all products makes a valuable impact on its success. Its new products with the advanced features, increase its market share day by day. Google assistant gives strength to the company, by comforting their customer’s lives in strategic way.
Weakness:
One of the biggest weakness is Google is that it was previously charged with the fine, because of the manipulation in its information system. This weakness makes strong impact on its brand value. After 2018, Google was charged again because of anti-competitive strategy, which has resulted in the company to have a negative impact in the minds of its customers. Another weakness is that Google cannot enter in Chinese market which carries a huge potential market. In some countries, Google’s products faced ban because of critical issues. I.e. in Pakistan, YouTube was banned because of some unethical materials being shown on it, which hurt the sentiments of many local Pakistanis.
Opportunities:
Google is looking forward to introduce Google assistant, which has an ability to carry out any task that it is given, based on the voice commands that it receives. This feature makes customers’ lives much easier and entertaining. Another option is to capture the Chinese market with other sources. Google can minimize its critics by working on its privacy issues in order to increase its market share by introducing its product in different markets with huge investment in advertising campaign. Many customers cannot easily understand the mechanism of Google’s product features, and for addressing this issue, Google must establish a team that should be eligible to help the customers in understanding the function and its usage in their daily life.
Threats:
One of the biggest threat Google is facing,is the shift in their customers because of the privacy issues and the fine charged on it, which makes its position weaker n customers’ perceptions. On the other hand, Apple gives Google a rivalry completion in the mobile market. In the race of leaving Apple behind by making the strategies in dominating the market, caused Google to face a huge fine. To avert this situation, Google must make considerate changes in its strategic policies. Google’s dominating behaviour over installing its google play or other features in mobile devices, makes its position weaker in mobile market. While, Apple’s strategy to differentiate its product makes Apple a dominating industry.
Competitive Analysis
Google is facing seriously tough competition from many competitors, out to whom four big giants are Amazon, Facebook, Apple and Yahoo. Microsoft with an updated version makes it difficult for Google to compete with these giants in cloud computing and search engine market. Both the companies i.e. Microsoft and Google struggle for having a competitive edge over each other. Microsoft doesn’t have as much customers as Google has. On the other hand, Facebook is also competing Google in video content features,hitting its You Tube engine. Facebook is a leading social content provider that is increasing its video content day by day. Research conduct in 2015, says that Facebook has an edge over Google because as much as the installation of the app matters, its usage does so on the same level. (See exhibit 4 for research).
Another competitive rival is Apple. Google’s pixelgives a competitive threat to Apple, but Apple is a leading company, working only in mobile and laptop Market providing Google with high threat with many products. Yahoo, amazon and other apps provide Google with highly tough competition. So, Google doesn’t only have to focus on its upcoming feathers,but also on the minimalizing of the tough competition given to it by the rivals.
Suggested Solutions
Google Inc. in order to cope up with the intense condition related to fine charged on it, along with the intent of considering the well being of its customers, must change its strategic policies. After analysing the full case, some of the alternatives which Google Inc. can adopt to cope up with this condition, are given below:
Resist Pre-installing
Google can make a contract with the OEM’s to pre-install its Google play as well as its other features on its devices. To avert this, Google can make its features more advanced so that OEM’s would be tempted to install the company’s features in their devices. For doing so, Google will have to make its marketing strategy very strong, and if it does make its marketing strategy strong, it wouldn’t only minimize the threat of anti-competitive strategy, but also minimizes its cost ultimately, resulting in increased profits.
Limited customization
Another solution to avert this condition is to provide a limited customization to its customer. O/S is a system that itself provides its customers with delightful feature, but allowing unlimited customization cuts down its uniqueness factor. Google can opt for the strategy of providing limited customization.
Researching Updates
Google can update the research all time to provide its customers with advanced features. Regular researches would help Google to be aware of what its customers’ needs are, and how they change with the passage of time..
Include Feature Supporting Reduction in Digital Overload
Google can help their customers by introducing a grey button,by using which, customers can set their alarming time in order to cut down the digital overload threat. Google can also produce a device that alarms the customer after 1 hour, so that the customer can analyse how much time he has spent in using this device. Customers can ignore that and work again, but this will create some type of mineralization in the digital overload.
Conclusion
We can conclude by stating that Google is a leading company that provides technology with vast features. Google is facing issues related to the fine charged on it in 2018 and previously in 2017, making its condition critical in the market. Many solutions have been suggested to the Google by using which it can overcome this critical situation. Google can have renewed contracts with OEM’s to compete in this digital phase by introducing an advanced technology. Google must make an advance feature and provide its customers with some flexibility. Google must focus on its main function of information system.
