United Electric Controls (UE) was a small, traditional family production company, when Dave Reis, the youngest member of the family Reis, took over the business. This case describes the efforts Reis, to change the traditional methods of the UE to make the business more profitable and place of its growth. Experiments with UE strategy involving employees in the change process are described, as well as efforts to adopt Japanese technology. The case centers around the dilemma of addressing the UE to spend $ 1.5 million to put in place the state of modern computer system. It is hoped that this system will help to integrate the functions of the company. The wisdom of this decision and how it will affect the further growth of UE should be the subject of a wealthy class.
