Reliable, safe, clean water is essential for the survival of the community. In many places, water is under stress condition that is expected to become even more difficult in the future. There are several ways that municipalities can improve their drinking water supply, including maintenance, purchasing from outside suppliers, water desalination and recycling. Disposal of waste water into drinking water is attractive in many situations. However, this option is not always successful, in some cases, public opposition won recycling plans, while social issues have been successfully resolved in others. This case provides an overview of water issues, and examples of successful and unsuccessful attempts to implement the recycling program.
