This case focuses on the John Ellis, executive director of Health and Human Services (HHS) in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. As an outsider to order, Ellis was taken to turn around the department and plans for the future. Four years after Ellis tension and improve HHS, a number of new economic and social changes have been introduced with the opening of a casino, a golf resort and a new motorway. The case examines the personal leadership style of Ellis and key components needed to inspire employees in a friendly, non-profit community with a unique culture. Special attention is paid to the importance of planning and how to bring in the era of unlimited possibilities.
