How would you defend Fanuchi’s actions using business ethics theories?

The department store under the leadership of Fanuchi has been identified to lose the sales each month. The management has been unaware of the root cause that are responsible to cause such decrease in sales profit. In order to reveal the undermine issue, the security manager proposed the idea of installing the camera and microphones in the work place to catch the culpable activities causing the loss. However, Fanuchi, the Manager of the store has been reluctant to imply such equipment in the workplace that may breach the privacy of the employees’ and also hinder the personal space, taking it as an unethical activity yet he agreed to implement the plan in order to gauge and analyze the pertaining problem.

Under the particular situation and the pertaining issue, the ethical theories states, that the employer has the right to monitor and control the action of the employees in a workplace using the organizational resources. The privacy can be breached in order to secure the privacy and integrity of the organization in the market and also in the work place.However, this has to be an informed action. The employees under the control should know the monitoring policies, keeping it hidden is unethical and breaches the privacy of the employees, which may lead to the legal suits for the uninformed actions.Yet, on other hand, the managers and the employers has the right to keep the close eye on the employee activities in the workplace and to tailor out the threats which may occur due to lose privacy control over the employees. (Berinato, 2008).Hence the action taken to gauge the activities of the employees is right from Fanuchi’s end, however, the conflict is present under the uninformed criteria of monitoring the employees.

What should they do with the information they had gathered while catching the thief?

Since the implementation of camera and microphone exposed the underlining problems and activities running in the store, including the unlawful sale of marijuana and other hard drugs, employee ,moral, dissatisfaction ,and other fraudulent activities, Such identification of the problem can be used by the Management to curtail the activities of the employees to serve the customer in the right direction. Since the sale of marihuana is illegal, the management can hider such sales of drugs from the store that can defame the store credibility and positioning in the market. In addition, since Fanuchi analyses the low morale and non-adherence to the ethical policies, he along with the other management can develop the corporate shared values to direct and shape the behavior of the employees that may in turn improve their performance and hence the sales of the store.

Since the motivation level and employee morale is low in the workplace, Fanuchi can use the information to draw certain strategies to improve the motivation level of the employees without notifying the identification of the reason through cameras. This will improve the motivational level of the employees and will improve the performance.Lastly, since some of the employees are using the fraudulent stamps for food, the management can use such information to improve the privacy parameters of the stores and the actions of the employee.In doing so, it can develop a clear and strict vision to pursue the operation in stores which will shape the behavior of the employees to restrict the unethical activities in the store..................
