In February 2000, the Triangle Community Foundation (TCF), the Director of Charity Services Tony Pipa Foundation presented a new mission statement and its implications for the internal staff. It was more than two years since the TCF board requested that donors, not non-profit organizations have been the main clients of the Fund. Executive Director Shannon St. John, Pipa, and other members of the management team met for several months and was struggling with fundamental questions about the definition of charity, how to achieve significant long-term consequences, and the role of the Fund in the communities he served. They were delighted with their progress, but I knew that many questions still remain, and they expect some resistance to their proposals. Most of the staff came to the FCS from non-profit, non-governmental organizations, and spent most of his time working with the voluntary sector. They were not sure that this new emphasis on donors, clients, intended for their work, they were not familiar with non-profit community considers its customers. "Hide
