Codex Alimentarius is a collection of international food standards developed by the Codex Commission, a body within the United Nations jointly by the FAO and WHO. The aim is to harmonize the standards of the global trade in food and agricultural products, consumer health protection and promotion of fair trade products. A subset of the commission's work involved the establishment of international standards for food labeling.
